Vladimir Putin Escalates Bombing Campaign Against Ukrainian Cities
Vladimir Putin has intensified drone and missile strikes across Ukraine to force the government to accept the annexation of four provinces.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has escalated a bombing campaign against Ukraine, deploying relentless drone and missile strikes against residential buildings, medical centers, and infrastructure. The strikes have targeted multiple cities, including Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Sumy, in an effort to break Ukrainian resolve and force the government to accept the Russian annexation of four provinces.
In September, Russia launched 3,177 jet-powered drones alongside high-speed Iskander ballistic missiles. While Ukraine faces a shortage of ballistic missile interceptors that has lowered interception rates, public polls indicate strong resistance to trading land for peace. To counter Russian aggression, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is collaborating with a European coalition to develop the Freya missile defense system.
Russia faces significant internal strain, including an estimated 1.5 million casualties and severe labor shortages. Ukrainian drone strikes have also targeted Russian refineries and supply lines. On the ground, Ukraine's 3rd Army Corps recently executed Operation Vivaldi in the Lyman sector of northern Donetsk, forcing Russian troops to retreat eastward.
