India and Canada Target Year-End Trade Agreement
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with foreign ministers from five nations in Atlanta to advance trade, defense, and diplomatic ties.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar conducted a series of bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Germany during the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta. A primary focus of these discussions was the relationship between India and Canada, where Jaishankar and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand worked toward concluding a comprehensive economic partnership agreement by the end of the year.
These trade negotiations and talks on regional security serve as a precursor to a planned visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Canada in December. In other meetings, Jaishankar discussed defense, nuclear cooperation, and critical minerals with Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno. He also held sessions with counterparts from Brazil, Mexico, and Germany to strengthen diplomatic ties and address bilateral economic agendas.
