Peter Obi Urges President Bola Tinubu to Retire
Peter Obi called on President Bola Tinubu to step down before the 2027 election, citing failures to address poverty, hunger, and insecurity.
Presidential candidate Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress called for President Bola Tinubu to retire and step aside before the 2027 general election. During an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Sunday Politics’, Obi argued that Tinubu lacks the energy and capacity to manage the country's escalating crises.
Obi pointed to World Bank and World Food Programme data on widespread poverty and hunger, as well as recent mass abductions in Zamfara State, as evidence of administrative failure. He dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump's commendation of Tinubu's security efforts, asserting that the current strategies are insufficient to protect citizens.
Obi stated that his motivation for the 2027 candidacy is a desire to make the country work for its citizens rather than a personal quest for power. If elected, he pledged to prioritize poverty reduction and education as primary tools to combat criminality.
