CoreWeave Financial Instability Sparks AI Bubble Debate
CoreWeave faces stock declines and rising credit default swaps, prompting analysts to warn of a potential AI investment bubble and massive asset write-downs.
Financial instability at CoreWeave has triggered a debate on Wall Street over whether the artificial intelligence sector is facing an imminent bubble burst. The neocloud computing firm has seen its stock tumble and credit default swaps surge, a trend driven by Federal Reserve rate hikes and rising borrowing costs for debt-reliant AI companies.
CoreWeave CEO Mike Intrator told employees that the company's deal backlog is sufficient to cover its debt obligations. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang supported this outlook, stating that CoreWeave's strength is improving every day and the firm does not require a financial backstop.
However, external analysts remain cautious. Gartner warned that AI data center owners face a potential $4 trillion asset write-down risk through 2032 because projected revenues may not cover massive capital expenditures. Bank of America analysts added that the AI boom follows a classic capital cycle that typically ends in disappointment due to overinvestment and intense competition, specifically citing the rise of Chinese open-weight models.
