Democrats Lead Midterm Polls as Trump Approval Slumps
Democrats hold a lead over Republicans in national polls as voters express deep pessimism over inflation and the cost of living ahead of the November 3 midterms.
Democrats hold a lead over Republicans in national polling ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. A Reuters/Ipsos poll shows 47% of registered voters supporting Democrats compared to 36% for Republicans, while a Harvard CAPS / Harris poll shows Democrats with a 4-point lead among likely voters.
Donald Trump faces low approval ratings, which the Harvard poll places at 39% and the Reuters poll at 32%. Voter dissatisfaction is primarily driven by the economy, with 64% of Harvard poll respondents believing the economy is on the wrong track and 73% of Reuters respondents stating the cost of living is moving in the wrong direction. While most of Trump's policy positions maintain majority support, his tariffs, trade policies, and handling of the Iran conflict are among his least popular measures.
Trump has intensified campaign appearances in states such as Texas and stated he would accept the election results if they were "honest." Meanwhile, Democrats are showing strength in state-level contests, including North Carolina, though Republican-drawn maps may limit potential gains in that state's House and Senate.
