Seyi Makinde Criticizes Tinubu Reforms at APM Candidate Event

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's economic reforms during an Allied Peoples Movement candidate unveiling in Abeokuta.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, acting as the presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's economic reforms during a candidate unveiling event in Abeokuta on Monday, August 3, 2026. Makinde argued that the simultaneous removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira increased the cost of living and worsened hardship for citizens without the implementation of adequate palliative measures.

Makinde called for a comprehensive reset of Nigeria's security, economy, and overall governance to improve the well-being of the people. APM Chairman Sanyaolu Abayomi supported this position, questioning government claims of economic improvement and urging citizens to obtain Permanent Voter Cards to prepare for future elections.

During the proceedings, Sunday Oginni of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties announced a strategic alliance between the APM, Labour Party, and New Nigeria People’s Party. This coalition aims to challenge the current political dominance in Ogun State leading up to the 2027 elections.
