Senator Kalu Urges President Tinubu to Grant Looted Funds Amnesty

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia North called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to grant amnesty to former Nigerian leaders accused of looting public funds. Speaking on News Central TV’s '60 Minutes With Mr Kay', Kalu proposed a two-year window for individuals to voluntarily return stolen money from any period since 1960 in exchange for a guarantee that they would not be prosecuted.

Kalu argued that significant sums, potentially totaling 50 to 60 billion, are being kept in private residences in Abuja rather than in the formal banking system. He stated that funds kept in homes do not help the economy grow and that repatriating these assets would provide a necessary boost to the Nigerian economy.
