Nyesom Wike Vows to Secure Tinubu's 2027 Re-election
Minister Nyesom Wike pledged to actively campaign for President Bola Tinubu's re-election and warned he expects political reprisals for opposing Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike declared during a media parley in Abuja on Wednesday that he will remain deeply involved in Rivers State politics to ensure President Bola Tinubu wins the 2027 presidential election. Wike dismissed rumors that his frequent visits to Rivers State signal a plan to relocate from the FCT, stating he must personally engage with supporters rather than relying on reports from associates.
Despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Wike is actively campaigning for Tinubu under the All Progressives Congress. He stated that he expects to be the primary target of political reprisals if Tinubu loses to opponents Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi. Wike acknowledged that his public support for the president has made him a prominent target for critics, but he maintained that he has no regrets.
This political alignment comes as opposition figures, including Atiku and Obi, move to form a broad opposition platform through the African Democratic Congress. Wike emphasized that the current political climate is too critical for him to remain passive as parties position themselves for the next general election.
