Donald Trump Campaigns for Byron Donalds in Fort Myers
President Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Fort Myers to endorse Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
Donald Trump held a campaign rally on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Alico Arena on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers. The event served as a push for Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, specifically focusing on gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds and Senator Ashley Moody.
During the rally, Trump endorsed Donalds, describing him as a man who is going to be a great governor. Donalds, a congressman representing Florida's 19th district, noted he also holds endorsements from Senator Rick Scott and Governor Ron DeSantis. The visit follows a University of North Florida poll showing Donalds leading Democratic opponent David Jolly by two points.
To accommodate the visit, Florida Gulf Coast University shifted most operations and classes to remote formats. The Federal Aviation Administration implemented a temporary flight restriction within 10 nautical miles of the local airport, while the Lee County Sheriff's Office managed significant traffic delays. Some students organized protests near the Cohen Student Union regarding immigration enforcement and the cost of living. Trump is scheduled to vote in Palm Beach County on Saturday.
