Pakistan Says US and Iran Near Hormuz Peace Deal

Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif announced that the United States and Iran are close to reaching a peace arrangement focused on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. This development follows mediation efforts led by Pakistan and Qatar.

Despite the optimistic outlook, significant friction remains. President Donald Trump has demanded that Iran pay reparations for deaths linked to the Islamic Republic and domestic protests as a condition for any future negotiations. In response, Iran has demanded the release of frozen assets, the lifting of the US naval blockade on its ports, and compensation for US violations of a lapsed June interim peace deal.

Regional instability persists despite the diplomatic progress. Reports indicate missile strikes on shipping vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Oman, as well as attacks on refineries in Russia and Libya. While oil prices dipped following the announcement from Islamabad, the security situation in the Gulf remains volatile.
