PDP Chieftain Warns Tinubu of Protest Vote Over Enugu Violence

Political tensions are escalating in Enugu State following a series of alleged violent attacks on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward meetings. Basil Ani, a PDP chieftain, reported that thugs targeted meetings in Akpugo Ward 3 on August 16, Obe Ward on August 29, and Agbani on September 12, with more than eight people reportedly shot and injured during the September incidents.

Ani warned that while local anger was initially directed at Governor Peter Mbah's administration, the frustration is shifting toward the Federal Government due to a perceived lack of intervention. He cautioned that if the government fails to investigate these attacks and ensure democratic stability, it could trigger a protest vote against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Amid these regional tensions, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has declared his exclusive support for President Tinubu's 2027 re-election. Wike is mobilizing a cross-party platform he calls a rainbow coalition, which he insists is not an arrangement with the All Progressives Congress. Wike argued that voters can distinguish between presidential and local contests, suggesting that the PDP remains free to field its own candidates for governorship and legislative seats while supporting the president.
