Abass Mimiko Backs President Tinubu for Second Term

Abass Mimiko, the Zenith Labour Party candidate in the 2024 Ondo State governorship election, declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves a second term in office. Speaking to journalists in Ondo town on September 20, 2026, Mimiko argued that Tinubu inherited an economy on the brink of collapse and has taken necessary but difficult steps to stabilize it.

Mimiko is forming the One Love Coalition to mobilize supporters for the president from outside the All Progressives Congress. He clarified that he remains a committed member of the Zenith Labour Party despite this endorsement.

Beyond national politics, Mimiko called for greater accountability for state governors regarding increased funding, urging a shift in priority toward food security and social services over infrastructure projects like overhead bridges. He specifically advised Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to focus on improving existing tertiary institutions rather than creating new ones to avoid the loss of academic staff.
