Kim Jong Un Vows to Strengthen Ties With China

Kim Jong Un pledged to vigorously promote relations with China while refusing to abandon North Korea's nuclear arsenal as a condition for U.S. talks.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced he will promote relations with China more vigorously in a reply to a congratulatory message from Chinese President Xi Jinping. This commitment follows a recent visit by Kim to Beijing for World War Two anniversary celebrations, where the two leaders attended a military parade and held their first bilateral meeting in six years.

Kim expressed confidence in the ability of the Communist Party of China to build a modern socialist state. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Workers' Party of Korea and the North Korean government to strengthen traditional relations of friendship and cooperation with its primary economic backer.

Regarding international diplomacy, Kim stated he would not avoid talks with the United States, but only if Washington stops insisting that North Korea abandon its nuclear arsenal. He refused to give up the weapons as a prerequisite for ending sanctions.
