Bitcoin Rebounds to $82,000 Amid U.S. Inflation Volatility

Bitcoin recovered to over $82,000 after U.S. inflation data triggered nearly $1.2 billion in liquidations and shifted expectations for Federal Reserve interest rate hikes.

Bitcoin experienced significant volatility between October 14 and 16, 2026, as investors reacted to U.S. inflation data and Federal Reserve policy signals. The cryptocurrency initially slid toward $81,300 on October 14 after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a September Consumer Price Index increase of 3.7%, which exceeded forecasts and raised the probability of an October rate hike.

Bitcoin rebounded to a 24-hour high of $82,539 by October 15 following comments from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok. Warsh noted the global economy was largely in line with expectations, leading traders to reduce the likelihood of an October hike to 14.9%. However, the market faced renewed pressure on October 16 when a producer price index report showed a 6.3% year-on-year increase, surpassing the expected 5.3%. This surge triggered nearly $950 million in liquidations of leveraged positions and over $261 million in outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs, briefly pushing the price below $80,000 before it recovered to over $82,000.

Traders are now monitoring the Deribit exchange for options expirations on October 16 and October 30. Analysts suggest that maintaining a price above $79,806 through the monthly settlement would indicate continued buyer control. Market participants remain cautious, awaiting further commentary from Kevin Warsh, as a hawkish tone could strengthen the dollar and pressure cryptocurrency prices in a higher-for-longer interest rate environment.
