Ekiti APC Mobilizes for Tinubu Amid Osun Election Loss

Governor Biodun Oyebanji urged APC leaders to unify for President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election as critics cite a recent Osun State defeat as a warning.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji called on All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and stakeholders to maintain unity and mobilize support for the 2027 re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During a meeting in Ado Ekiti, Oyebanji emphasized that upcoming ward, local government, and state congresses in September are critical for stabilizing the party at the grassroots and preparing for December local government elections. To manage these preparations, the party established an eight-member committee led by Chief Alaba Abejide.

Oyebanji and APC State Chairman Sola Elesin highlighted the party's recent success in the June governorship election, noting that the victory broke the historical trend of sitting governors in Ekiti failing to secure second terms. Former governor Chief Segun Oniru also urged stakeholders to refine mobilization strategies to increase voter turnout for the next presidential cycle.

Conversely, Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, claimed the APC is fearful of the 2027 general elections following its defeat in the Osun State governorship election. Speaking on Channels Television, Momodu argued that the loss serves as a warning signal, asserting that voters will prioritize merit over loyalty to the president. He characterized APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and former governor Gboyega Oyetola as name droppers who relied too heavily on Tinubu's influence.
