Iran Launches Massive Missile and Drone Strikes Across Gulf States

Between March 30 and April 1, 2026, Iran launched a massive wave of coordinated drone and missile strikes targeting the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan. These attacks, which followed U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, primarily targeted energy infrastructure, oil tankers, and civilian areas. In the UAE, an Iranian drone struck the Kuwaiti oil tanker Al Salmi off Dubai, while debris from interceptions killed a Bangladeshi national in Fujairah.

Kuwait suffered significant damage after Iranian drones struck fuel tanks at Kuwait International Airport and targeted power and desalination facilities. In Qatar, a cruise missile hit the Aqua 1 tanker, while Bahrain reported successive strikes on its Bapco Energies refinery and residential areas. Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province and Riyadh also faced barrages of ballistic missiles and drones. The UAE responded by barring Iranian nationals from entering or transiting the country and shutting down Iranian institutions in Dubai.

U.S. President Donald Trump demanded the immediate reopening of the blockaded Strait of Hormuz, threatening to destroy Iranian oil wells and power plants if the waterway remains closed. While he suggested the U.S. could exit the conflict within weeks, he emphasized negotiating through military pressure. Iran rejected ceasefire frameworks as unreasonable, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stating that Tehran does not set deadlines for its own defense. Bahrain has submitted multiple letters to the United Nations documenting the aggression and asserting its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
