Karnataka Government to Expand Cabinet With 18 New Ministers

The Karnataka government is scheduled to expand its cabinet on Monday, August 4, 2026, following final approval from the Indian National Congress high command. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has submitted a tentative list of 20 legislators for induction, although sources suggest that 18 of the 20 vacant positions will be filled to preserve regional and caste balances.

This expansion comes two months after Shivakumar took office on June 3 with a 14-member council. The process follows discussions involving senior leader Rahul Gandhi and the party's leadership.

Congress General Secretaries K.C. Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala are expected to arrive in Bengaluru on Monday noon to deliver the approved list. The swearing-in ceremony is planned for Monday evening at the Glass House in the Lok Bhavan.
