Nigeria Launches Housing Projects for Civil Servants and Military
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development began constructing 250 civil servant homes and approved 600 duplexes for military personnel in Abuja.
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has launched two major housing initiatives to reduce Nigeria's national housing deficit and improve public sector welfare. In Gwagwalada, the ministry commenced construction of the Renewed Hope Civil Service Estate, which will provide 250 two- and three-bedroom bungalows for civil servants. Developed through a public-private partnership with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the project aims to increase productivity by providing stable housing for government employees.
Simultaneously, the Federal Executive Council approved the purchase of 600 four-bedroom terrace duplexes at Bristow City in Life Camp, Abuja, for members of the Armed Forces. This acquisition follows a previous approval for 2,056 units, bringing the total number of approved military housing units to 2,656.
Minister Muttaqha Rabe Darma stated these efforts are part of a broader federal policy to construct 10,000 housing units over five years. Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Didi Esther Walson-Jack described the Gwagwalada project as a dream come true and called for similar schemes to be replicated across the country to ensure civil servants can retire with dignity.
