Donald Trump Endorses Michael Alfonso for Wisconsin House Seat

Michael Alfonso, 26, seeks the Wisconsin 7th Congressional District seat with Donald Trump's endorsement despite criticism from local Republicans over his lack of experience.

Michael Alfonso, the 26-year-old son-in-law of U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, is running for Duffy's former House seat in Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District. Alfonso has secured the endorsement of President Donald Trump, who described him as a "MAGA warrior," along with support from House Speaker Mike Johnson and Turning Point Action.

The campaign is characterized by significant financial backing. Sean Duffy contributed $1 million from his former congressional account to a supportive super PAC, and megadonor Richard Uihlein provided an additional $1 million. Conversely, rival candidate Jessi Ebben, an Ashley Furniture executive, is funded by Elizabeth Uihlein and Diane Hendricks.

Despite high-profile support, Alfonso faces opposition from local Republican officials and other candidates. Former Marine and Iranian hostage survivor Kevin Hermening and Iron County Republican Party Chair Tanner Hiller have criticized Alfonso's lack of leadership skills and political experience. Hiller specifically accused Duffy of inappropriately using connections to facilitate Alfonso's candidacy.

The Republican primary scheduled for August 11 will test whether Trump's influence and Alfonso's fundraising can overcome local GOP pushback regarding his qualifications.
