Trump-Promoted Freedom Fuel Network Faces New Jersey Investigations

President Donald Trump promoted the Freedom Fuel Network while holding stakes in its owner, as New Jersey officials investigate the network for safety and pricing violations.

The White House and Donald Trump recently promoted the Freedom Fuel Network for providing low-cost gasoline, describing the network's backers as patriots. However, state records in New Jersey reveal a pattern of extensive safety and environmental violations at several of these stations. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has documented 196 separate violations since 2022, including air pollution control failures and the submission of false registration data.

Enforcement actions include a $429,900 penalty against stations managed by businessman Shamikh Kazmi. In Atlantic County, some stations were fined $50,000 for bypassing regulatory seals to refill tanks in defiance of delivery bans. Simultaneously, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office is investigating the network for potentially violating state laws that prohibit the sale of gasoline below cost.

While the White House claimed it was unfamiliar with these regulatory issues, financial disclosures show that President Trump holds significant holdings in Blue Owl Capital, the asset manager that owns the stations managed by Kazmi.
