US Treasury Sanctions 17 Iranian Shadow Fleet Vessels

The United States Department of the Treasury sanctioned 17 vessels linked to Iran's shadow fleet as part of Operation Economic Outcast. This pressure campaign seeks to cripple the Iranian economy and end a seven-month war by cutting off funds used to support terror proxies and regional conflict.
The sanctioned vessels, including the TINA 5, SOGL, and SHENZHEN, are registered across more than a dozen jurisdictions and have transported millions of barrels of Iranian crude, propane, and butane. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated the move aims to starve the regime of money used to wage war. A Treasury official noted that the department is targeting the remnants of the fleet, as a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports has already stopped oil loading and offloading, with Kpler data showing no crude exports since August 25.
The ongoing conflict has disrupted global energy markets, contributing to a rise in U.S. gasoline prices to a national average of $4.36 per gallon ahead of the November midterm elections.
