Trump Declares Primary Military Objectives in Iran Completed
President Donald Trump announced the U.S. has met primary goals in Iran while continuing strikes to force a new diplomatic agreement.
President Donald Trump announced that the United States has completed its primary military objectives in Iran, which included degrading Iranian military capabilities, ensuring the Strait of Hormuz remains open, and preventing the acquisition of a nuclear weapon. Despite declaring these goals met, Trump stated that military strikes will continue until he decides they have reached a sufficient point.
The conflict escalated following the collapse of a 14-point memorandum of understanding. U.S. Central Command reported six consecutive nights of strikes targeting Iranian assets used to threaten vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. These hostilities have expanded into reciprocal attacks on American military installations across the Gulf.
Trump asserted that military strength is the only means of negotiating with the Iranian government and claimed the U.S. is winning the campaign. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt added that Iran remains in contact with the United States and has expressed a desire to reach a deal, stating that the Iranian government is suffering devastating blows from the U.S. military. While Trump believes the war will end once Iran is forced to sign an agreement, he expressed uncertainty about whether such a deal will ultimately be reached.
