US and Hungary Sign Energy and Counter-Terrorism Pacts
Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Minister Anita Orban signed agreements to diversify Central European energy and combat far-left terrorism.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban signed two memoranda of understanding in Washington on October 29 to strengthen bilateral ties in energy and security. The first agreement utilizes the Trump Peace Pipelines framework to provide U.S. energy to Central Europe, aiming to diversify oil and gas supply sources for the region.
The second memorandum establishes a law enforcement partnership to share information and track cross-border networks. Rubio characterized the initiative as a response to a "resurgence of far-left terrorism," pledging that the two nations will work to bring these networks to justice.
Beyond the formal agreements, the officials discussed multilateral priorities and cooperation on cybersecurity. The partnership reflects Hungary's goal to secure a predictable and affordable energy supply for its industry and economy while aligning with U.S. security interests in the region.
