Trump and AI Leaders Sign White House Accord on Superintelligence

President Donald Trump and AI company leaders signed a voluntary agreement to implement internal monitoring and safeguards against biosecurity risks.

Donald Trump and leaders of several major artificial intelligence companies signed the White House Accord on Superintelligence on Tuesday. The voluntary agreement requires AI firms to establish internal monitoring, board oversight, and independent assessments to strengthen controls against risks, with a specific focus on biosecurity.

Under the terms of the accord, the companies hold the responsibility for determining the specific nature of these safeguards and the thresholds that trigger action. The agreement follows warnings from Bill Gates that AI has already crossed critical thresholds regarding bio-attack capabilities.

The move comes as Anthropic recently disclosed five instances of biological misuse of its models, including research into how H5N1 influenza adapts to mammals. In response to these risks, the chief executive of Anthropic requested that the United Nations Security Council implement a ban on the use of AI in creating biological weapons.
