Trump Halloween Flyover Causes Panic and Airport Delays
President Donald Trump hosted a White House Halloween event featuring low-altitude flyovers by a Qatari jet that caused public panic and delayed over 200 flights.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted a Halloween event at the White House on Thursday that featured two low-altitude flyovers by a Boeing 747-8 jet. The aircraft, a 400 million dollar plane provided by the government of Qatar, flew hundreds of feet over downtown Washington, D.C., to entertain trick-or-treaters.
The surprise stunt caused panic among local residents, some of whom associated the low-flying aircraft with the September 11 attacks. The Council of the District of Columbia criticized the lack of coordination, stating that officials received only fifteen minutes of notice before the flyovers began.
Operational disruptions extended to the Federal Aviation Administration, which temporarily halted traffic at Ronald Reagan National Airport. This action resulted in delays for more than 200 flights. Despite the criticism and chaos, the White House rapid response office defended the event on social media, describing the flyover as "epic."
