Himanta Biswa Sarma Challenges Rahul Gandhi Over Electoral Roll Revision

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma challenged Rahul Gandhi to resign from opposition-led states if he mistrusts the Chief Election Commissioner's electoral roll revisions.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to demand the resignation of opposition-led state governments if Gandhi truly mistrusts Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Sarma defended the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, stating the process is necessary to address demographic changes resulting from cross-border infiltration from Bangladesh.

Sarma dismissed opposition claims of voter suppression, characterizing the INDIA bloc's protests as a manufactured conspiracy supported by foreign powers and Dimagi Naxals. He described the opposition's actions as an attempt to force a regime change in India without popular support.

In a direct challenge to Rahul Gandhi, Sarma proposed that Gandhi surrender power in states such as Kerala to hold fresh elections using paper ballots instead of Electronic Voting Machines. Sarma stated he is prepared to resign his own position to contest such an election in Assam if the Congress party agrees to give up its government in Kerala.
