Rahul Gandhi Accuses Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann of Alcohol Use

Rahul Gandhi accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of alcohol use and failing to stop the state's drug crisis during a campaign rally in Sangrur.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during an Insaaf Rally in Sangrur on November 4. Gandhi alleged that Mann consumes alcohol and remains under its influence during parliamentary sessions, claiming he could smell alcohol on the Chief Minister's breath as early as 11:00 am.

These remarks coincide with the start of Gandhi's campaign for next year's Punjab Assembly elections, where the Indian National Congress will compete against its INDIA bloc ally, the Aam Aadmi Party. Gandhi accused the AAP government of being incapable of eradicating the drug menace in Punjab and suggested the state is governed from New Delhi rather than locally.

Aam Aadmi Party Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwaj condemned the comments as a below-the-belt attack and accused the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party of forming a partnership to target the Punjab government. Adding to the pressure, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the Mann administration is the most corrupt government in the 60-year history of the state.
