Northern Nigerian Political Groups Split Over Support for Tinubu
The Tinubu Vanguard suspended its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while Senator Abdul’aziz Yari urged northern voters to back the president for re-election.
Political factions in Northern Nigeria have adopted opposing stances regarding the 2027 re-election bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Tinubu Vanguard, a support organization operating across 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, announced it has suspended all activities and support for the president and the All Progressives Congress. Group leadership cited a lack of recognition, systemic neglect, and prolonged hardship among its members as the reasons for the withdrawal.
In contrast, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, called on the northern electorate to provide full support for the president's second term. During his installation as Obaloyin of Yorubaland in Oyo State, Yari described this support as a form of payback for Tinubu's previous role in securing political victories for the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
