Peter Obi Urges President Tinubu to Withdraw Second-Term Bid
Peter Obi, presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, called on President Bola Tinubu to step down and criticized the administration's economic record.
Presidential candidate Peter Obi called on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw his bid for a second term, asserting that the president lacks the energy and capacity to govern effectively. Speaking at the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) state secretariat in Bayelsa and during a town hall meeting in Owerri, Obi accused the All Progressives Congress-led government of causing widespread hunger, insecurity, and poverty.
Obi alleged that President Tinubu has neglected Imo State, claiming the president has not visited the state since taking office despite spending over 260 days abroad. He highlighted severe socio-economic crises, stating that 140 million Nigerians live in multidimensional poverty and 18 million children are out of school. He further criticized the federal government for rising national debt and characterized Nigeria as one of the world's most terrorized countries.
Alongside running mate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Obi pledged to shift Nigeria from consumption to production by investing in healthcare, education, and the development of seaports in Warri, Port Harcourt, Bayelsa, and Calabar. During the events, NDC national leader Henry Seriake Dickson urged residents to provide overwhelming electoral support for the party while explicitly warning supporters to avoid violence and intimidation during the electoral process.
