Trump Announces 'Election Integrity Army' for 2026 Midterms

President Donald Trump announced the deployment of a Republican Election Integrity Army across all 50 states for the 2026 midterms, vowing the force will be larger and stronger than the previous iteration. The Republican National Committee is executing the plan through litigation, records requests, and state-by-state challenges, building on the 2024 program that deployed over 160,000 volunteers.

The announcement came in direct response to Senate Democrats launching an election protection task force led by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, former Attorney General Eric Holder, and election lawyer Marc Elias. Trump accused Democrats of attempting to suppress Republican voters, calling Schumer "Palestinian" and labeling Elias a "terrible lawyer." Elias countered that he has beaten Trump more than 60 times in court and wears the scorn as a badge of honor. Schumer argued Republicans are working to tilt elections because they risk losing in 2026.

The Republican initiative follows a Supreme Court ruling gutting the Voting Rights Act, which the GOP has leveraged to pursue mid-decade redistricting, voter roll purges, mail-in voting restrictions, and threats to deploy ICE agents to polling sites.

The election integrity push comes as Republicans face a difficult midterm landscape. Trump's approval rating sits between 35 and 37 percent, and a Marist poll shows Democrats leading the generic House ballot by 10 points. Polling indicates voters prioritize the cost of living over election integrity, raising questions about whether the initiative can substitute for an economic message.
