Kristi Noem Awards $10,000 Bonuses to TSA Officers
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem distributed $10,000 bonuses to TSA officers who worked without pay during a 43-day government shutdown.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced and distributed $10,000 bonus checks to select Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers who served during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. The shutdown lasted 43 days, from October 1 to November 12, 2025, forcing many TSA and Federal Aviation Administration employees to work without pay.
Noem distributed the payments during events at George H.W. Bush Airport in Houston and Logan International Airport in Boston. She stated that she and President Donald Trump provided the bonuses to recognize patriots who maintained exemplary service and took on extra shifts despite economic uncertainty. The bonuses are funded using carryover funds from Fiscal Year 2025.
At Logan International Airport, nearly 300 TSA officers were identified as having maintained perfect attendance during the shutdown. However, the Department of Homeland Security clarified that the bonuses were reserved for select officers nationwide, leaving the exact number of recipients at the Boston airport unspecified.
