A forum of governorship candidates from the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 general elections. Led by Taraba state candidate Aboki Bayonga, the group announced their support during a press conference in Abuja on Friday, pledging to mobilize grassroots structures and collaborate with the Arewa for Asiwaju group to secure the president's victory.
The candidates cited the administration's work in road construction, agriculture, and the NELFUND student loan program as the basis for their support. Bayonga argued that a single four-year term is insufficient for projects requiring long-term planning and funding, stating that the group wants continuity.
Despite the presidential endorsement, the DLA candidates explicitly ruled out defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress. They clarified that their support is limited to the presidential race, as the DLA currently lacks its own presidential candidate for 2027. The candidates intend to continue contesting legislative, senatorial, and governorship seats under the DLA platform.
