Trump Imposes 100% Tariff on Foreign Drone Imports
President Donald Trump announced tariffs up to 100% on unmanned aircraft systems to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign drone supplies.
Donald Trump announced a 100% tariff on imports of unmanned aircraft systems and their components to reduce United States reliance on foreign drone supplies. The policy establishes a tiered tax system where the highest rate applies to drones of a specific size or those possessing national-security capabilities. Smaller drones without such capabilities will face a 25% tax.
The levies take effect in 21 days. Countries with existing trade deals with the administration will follow their specific agreed rates rather than the new blanket tariffs.
The policy is expected to significantly impact the Chinese drone market. DJI Technologies, which held approximately 70% of the U.S. commercial drone market as of last year, is particularly vulnerable to the new measures.
