NVIDIA Partners with L&T and NPCI for Indian AI Infrastructure

NVIDIA is collaborating with Larsen & Toubro to build gigawatt-scale AI factories and with the National Payments Corporation of India to develop a sovereign payments-native AI model.

During the India AI Summit on February 18, 2026, NVIDIA announced two major initiatives to establish sovereign artificial intelligence capacity in India. The company entered a proposed joint venture with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to construct gigawatt-scale AI factory infrastructure. This partnership integrates L&T's engineering execution with NVIDIA's GPUs, CPUs, and software to scale GPU clusters to 30 MW at L&T's campus in Chennai and develop a 40 MW data center in Mumbai.

Simultaneously, NVIDIA partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to create a sovereign AI infrastructure for the digital payments ecosystem. Using the NVIDIA Nemotron family of open models, NPCI will develop a payments-native AI foundation model designed to meet India's regulatory and data sovereignty requirements. This effort follows a pilot launch of the UPI Help Assistant, which utilized the Financial Model for India small language model for grievance resolution.

These developments align with the India AI Mission to transition Indian enterprises from AI pilots to production-scale deployment across manufacturing, healthcare, and financial services. The combined efforts aim to position India as a global AI hub while enhancing the resilience and security of its fintech infrastructure.
