Democrats Demand Federal Record Preservation After Midterm Wins
Democratic lawmakers are demanding that Trump administration officials preserve federal records and announcing investigations into business dealings and immigration policies following midterm election victories.
Democratic lawmakers are demanding that Trump administration officials preserve federal records following midterm election victories that granted the party control of Congress. Bobby Scott, the top Democrat on the House committee on education and workforce, sent a letter to leaders of 10 departments and agencies, including the departments of education, agriculture, labor, and health and human services.
Scott warned that the willful destruction of public business records violates the Federal Records Act of 1950 and carries penalties of fines or imprisonment. He requested written confirmation of record preservation by November 18, stating that the American people have given Congress a clear mandate to root out waste, fraud, and abuse within the administration.
Simultaneously, Robert Garcia, ranking member of the House oversight committee, announced plans to launch investigations into the business dealings of Donald Trump. Garcia also intends to probe the administration's immigration policies and its handling of the Epstein files.
