Nigel Farage Seeks Reelection in Clacton By-Election

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage will face voters this Thursday, August 14, 2026, in a by-election for his parliamentary seat in Clacton, Essex. Farage triggered the contest by resigning as the local MP last month, a move that halted a parliamentary investigation into his finances, specifically regarding an undeclared 5 million pound gift from crypto investor Christopher Harborne.

Farage characterizes the investigations as a result of constant demonization by the establishment. While major British political parties have boycotted the election, calling it a stunt, Farage faces a satirical independent candidate known as Count Binface. Despite the boycott, Reform UK has seen a recent decline in national polls, falling below 25 percent. Farage also faces competition from Restore UK, a party founded by former Reform member Rupert Lowe and endorsed by Elon Musk.

If Farage wins, he will return to Parliament, though he remains under investigation by the Metropolitan Police and the parliamentary standards commissioner. The police are specifically examining the legality of two 250,000 pound donations to Reform UK.
