Azerbaijan Demands Armenian Constitutional Changes Before Peace Treaty Signing
Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov says a peace treaty with Armenia awaits the removal of territorial claims from the Armenian Constitution.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov announced that Azerbaijan has completed its obligations regarding a final peace agreement with Armenia. While a draft Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations has been initialed and made public, Bayramov stated that the formal signing is now contingent on Armenia removing references containing territorial claims against Azerbaijan from its Constitution.
This diplomatic push follows a summit in Washington where Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and U.S. President Donald Trump signed a Joint Declaration. As part of the normalization process, Azerbaijan and Armenia have established specialized commissions to manage the delimitation and demarcation of the shared state border. Bayramov reported that nearly 13 kilometers of the border have been delimited, with work continuing from north to south and plans to resolve issues regarding exclave villages.
Foreign Ministers Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan have traveled to Washington for further discussions. Additionally, the two nations have requested the formal closure of the OSCE Minsk Process and have entered initial talks with the United States regarding the TRIPP project.
