Russia Condemns EU Transfer of 8 Billion Euros to Ukraine

The European Union transferred 8 billion euros, approximately 9.1 billion dollars, in income generated from frozen Russian assets to the government of Ukraine. The funds were derived from profits on assets blocked by the United States and the European Union following the escalation of the conflict in February 2022.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov condemned the transfer, characterizing the action as illegal and stating, "We truly believe this is theft." Russian Foreign Ministry official Vladislav Maslennikov confirmed the specific amount transferred to Kiev.

Approximately 300 billion dollars in Russian funds remain frozen globally, with about 240 billion dollars held at Euroclear, a clearing house based in Belgium. Peskov maintained that Russia's position on the legality of these actions remains unchanged.
