Rotimi Amaechi Pledges Resignation if Nigeria Fails to Improve

Rotimi Amaechi pledged to resign if Nigeria does not show significant improvement within one year of an African Democratic Congress victory in 2027.

Vice-presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Rotimi Amaechi pledged to resign from office if Nigeria does not show significant improvement within one year of his party assuming power in 2027. During an interview on AIT’s Democracy Today, Amaechi stated that an ADC administration would prioritize security, education, and the economy, while aggressively tackling corruption to prevent the diversion of public funds.

Amaechi criticized President Bola Tinubu's removal of fuel subsidies, claiming the benefits have gone into private pockets rather than to the public. He also expressed concern over Nigeria's high dependence on imported finished goods, which he claims exceeds 46 percent.

This pledge follows a similar statement by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, who suggested President Tinubu should remove him from office if he fails to deliver the FCT in the 2027 election.
