NDA MPs Protest as Opposition Demands Accountability for Student Crackdowns

Members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) held a protest march toward the Indian Parliament on August 11, 2026, to condemn the Opposition's disruption of legislative proceedings. NDA lawmakers accused Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of avoiding a government-offered debate on student protests and stalling Parliament.

The political standoff follows police actions against demonstrators in two regions. In New Delhi, a July 20 'Sansad Chalo' march regarding NEET paper leaks ended in clashes at Jantar Mantar. In Jharkhand, police used water cannons, tear gas, and lathis on August 10 to block JPSC and JSSC aspirants marching toward the state assembly. These students have been agitating since July 25 for recruitment cancellations and commission reforms.

While Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that Home Minister Amit Shah is ready to provide a statement, Gandhi dismissed such a response as mere opinion. He demanded to know specifically who ordered the police firing to determine if there was culpability or incompetence. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal expressed support for the Jharkhand students, calling violence against them unacceptable. NDA MPs countered by accusing Gandhi of double standards for focusing on Delhi while remaining silent on the Jharkhand crackdown.
