China Increases Military Incursions Around Taiwan Over Three Days
The Government of China deployed numerous aircraft and naval vessels around Taiwan from July 3 to July 5, prompting responses from the Republic of China Armed Forces.
The Government of China intensified military activity around Taiwan between July 3 and July 5, 2026, deploying a series of aircraft sorties and naval vessels to assert its claim that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China.
On July 3, the Ministry of National Defence detected 30 aircraft sorties, seven naval vessels, and five official ships. Of those aircraft, 26 crossed the median line into northern, central, southwestern, and eastern sectors of the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). This followed activity on July 2, which included 22 aircraft sorties conducting joint air-sea training in the western Pacific.
Activity continued on July 4 with eight aircraft sorties, 10 naval vessels, and seven official ships, with six aircraft entering the southwestern ADIZ. By July 5, the ministry reported seven naval vessels and seven official ships operating in the area. The Republic of China Armed Forces monitored and responded to all incursions.
Amid these military movements, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed strategic stability with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. During this diplomatic exchange, China urged the United States to handle Taiwan-related issues with extra prudence due to their far-reaching implications.
