Judge Grants Trump Reprieve on Financial Disclosure Order

U.S. District Judge Roy Altman granted Donald Trump a temporary reprieve on Thursday from a court order requiring the disclosure of financial records from his family trust. The stay follows an original order by Miami-based magistrate judge Enjolique Lett.

The legal dispute stems from a $10 billion lawsuit filed by Trump against the BBC over a 2024 documentary. Trump alleges the broadcaster misleadingly edited a speech he delivered on January 6, 2021, by removing a section where he called for peaceful demonstrations. He is seeking $5 billion for defamation and $5 billion for unfair trade practices.

Trump's legal team is currently attempting to amend the complaint to focus exclusively on reputational harm. They argue that removing claims of business damages would eliminate the need for financial disclosures, an argument Judge Altman found "compelling" enough to justify the brief stay. While the BBC has apologized for the edit, it denies defaming the president.

A trial is provisionally scheduled for February. This litigation is part of a wider series of legal actions initiated by the Trump administration against media organizations, including the Associated Press, ABC, and the Wall Street Journal.
