Trump Earns $2.2 Billion Amid Conflicts of Interest Probe
President Donald Trump earned $2.2 billion in his second term's first year through crypto and mining deals while the Justice Department subpoenas journalists.
President Donald Trump earned an estimated $2.2 billion during the first year of his second term, primarily through cryptocurrency ventures. An investigation by The New York Times reveals that the President, his sons, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick engaged in business deals within sectors regulated by the administration, including nuclear power and tungsten mining.
One specific instance involved a tungsten mining deal in Kazakhstan with Kaz Resources, a company in which Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump held investments. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick advocated for the company, while his own family business, Cantor Fitzgerald, raised capital for firms receiving federal financing. The White House and Lutnick deny any conflicts of interest, describing the business activities as patriotic support for the national economy.
Simultaneously, the United States Department of Justice issued subpoenas to New York Times reporter Eric Lipton and other journalists. The government seeks to identify sources regarding a Qatari-donated plane used as Air Force One. Reports indicate the aircraft lacks critical security features, such as EMP shielding and secure exits, despite nearly $1 billion in taxpayer spending.
