Abia APC and PDP Form Coalition for Tinubu 2027 Bid

The Abia State chapters of the APC and PDP formed a coalition to support President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid.

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) inaugurated a 618-member Presidential Campaign Council in Umuahia on Thursday to support the 2027 re-election bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a simultaneous move, the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced it is adopting President Tinubu as its own presidential candidate, forming a coalition with the APC to increase the state's influence and secure federal appointments.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu urged the council to remain focused, stating that the South-East must align with the presidency to remain relevant. APC state chairman Chijioke Chukwu described the unification as a new dawn and requested that the President fill a vacancy in the Federal Executive Council with a bona fide APC member.

Separately, the Action Peoples Party (APP) is evaluating its preferred candidate for the 2027 general elections. National Chairman Uche Kingsley Nnadi announced following a meeting in Abuja that the party is considering President Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi. The APP plans to formally communicate its decision at a National Convention, with rallies scheduled for Kaduna and Owerri before the end of November.
