Rahul Gandhi Challenges Asset Verification Order in Supreme Court

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has petitioned the Supreme Court of India to challenge orders issued by the Allahabad High Court. The High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to verify allegations that Gandhi possesses assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and holds dual citizenship.

These allegations stem from a complaint filed by S Vignesh Shishir, a worker for the Bharatiya Janata Party based in Karnataka. The Allahabad High Court previously expressed dissatisfaction with a CBI affidavit filed on July 20, subsequently ordering a senior officer to personally file a fresh update on the investigation's progress.

In his plea to the apex court, Gandhi is challenging the verification orders and has filed a transfer petition to move the proceedings from the Allahabad High Court to the Delhi High Court. A Supreme Court bench consisting of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V Mohana is scheduled to hear the petitions on August 17.
