Narendra Modi to Inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open SEMICON India 2026 on September 17 to showcase the nation's expanding semiconductor manufacturing and design ecosystem.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 from September 17 to 19 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. The event, themed 'Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem,' will feature over 500 exhibitors and companies from more than 40 countries, including the United States, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Germany, and the Netherlands. A key highlight of the conference is a roundtable chaired by the Prime Minister with global CEOs.
The conference follows the Union Cabinet's approval of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0, which expands government support to include chip design, advanced packaging, R&D, and talent development. This follows the ISM 1.0 phase, where 12 projects were approved. MeitY Secretary S Krishnan reported that three of those initial projects have already begun production, with five to six projects expected to enter commercial production by the end of 2026.
To support the broader ecosystem, the government has provided design tools to over 332 academic institutes and 105 startups, with 24 startups approved under the Design-Linked Incentive scheme. Domestic demand for semiconductors in India is projected to double from $100 billion to $200 billion. The event is jointly organized by the India Semiconductor Mission, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and the industry association SEMI.
