John Fetterman Accuses Democratic Party of Harboring Antisemitism
Senator John Fetterman criticized the Democratic Party for its perceived rise in antisemitism and waning support for Israel amid ongoing military conflicts with Iran and Hamas.
Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has repeatedly accused the Democratic Party of harboring a serious problem with antisemitism. In a series of interviews and public statements, Fetterman pointed to the political viability of Graham Platner, a Democratic primary candidate in Maine who possesses a Nazi SS Totenkopf tattoo and has allegedly praised Hamas. He also criticized the party for its association with influencer Hasan Piker and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's opposition to Iron Dome funding.
These critiques followed a Senate vote where a majority of Democrats supported resolutions introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders to block the sale of bombs and bulldozers to Israel. Fetterman was one of only seven Democrats to oppose both motions. He noted that support for Israel has become politically toxic within his party, claiming approximately 80% of Democrats now view the ally negatively.
Fetterman further broke with his party by praising President Donald Trump's Operation Epic Fury and the subsequent military campaign against Iran. He defended joint U.S.-Israeli military efforts in Iran and Lebanon, characterizing Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran as a gigantic war crime. Conversely, other Democratic figures, including Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, have called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a war criminal. Fetterman stated he is proud to stand with Israel even if he becomes the last man standing in the Democratic Party.
