Josh Shapiro Holds 25-Point Lead in Pennsylvania Gubernatorial Poll
Governor Josh Shapiro leads Republican challenger Stacy Garrity by 25 percentage points in a new Quinnipiac University poll of likely Pennsylvania voters.
A Quinnipiac University poll of 1,159 likely voters conducted from October 1 to 5 shows Josh Shapiro holding a 25-point lead over Republican challenger and State Treasurer Stacy Garrity in the Pennsylvania gubernatorial race. Shapiro received 59% support compared to Garrity's 34%, while Libertarian candidate Ken Krawchuk received 2%. This marks the fifth consecutive poll where the incumbent has maintained a lead of 20 points or more, supported by 95% of Democrats and 62% of independents.
The survey also indicates a broader Democratic advantage in the state, with 54% of likely voters preferring Democratic control of the U.S. House of Representatives over 39% for Republicans. This momentum for Shapiro, who is viewed as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, coincides with a steep decline in popularity for President Donald Trump within Pennsylvania, complicating Republican efforts to maintain their standing in four critical House races.
Other state officials faced more divided results. U.S. Senator John Fetterman holds a 50% disapproval rating, with only 19% support among Democrats. U.S. Senator Dave McCormick's job performance is split, with 37% approval and 35% disapproval. Additionally, 64% of respondents believe artificial-intelligence data centers in Pennsylvania will cause more harm than good.
