Raphael Glucksmann Enters Socialist Primary for 2027 French Presidency
European Union lawmaker Raphael Glucksmann announced his candidacy for the Socialist party's October primary to secure the nomination for the 2027 French presidential election.
European Union lawmaker Raphael Glucksmann announced his intention to compete in the Socialist party's primary vote this October to secure the nomination for the 2027 French presidential election. Speaking on a TF1 newscast, Glucksmann positioned himself as a pro-EU social democrat and explicitly ruled out any future alliances with far-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
Glucksmann enters a crowded center-left field that includes Philippe Brun, Ségolène Royal, François Hollande, and Olivier Faure. This internal contest takes place while the French left remains deeply divided following the 2024 legislative elections.
With President Emmanuel Macron legally barred from seeking another term, current polling indicates far-right leader Marine Le Pen is the frontrunner. Glucksmann and Mélenchon, who is running as an independent, are currently polling roughly level between 13% and 14%.
