Thomas Massie Plans to Reintroduce Pete Hegseth Impeachment Resolution
Representative Thomas Massie announced plans to reintroduce a resolution to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth following the midterm elections.
Representative Thomas Massie announced plans to reintroduce a resolution to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after the midterm elections. The proposal includes eight articles alleging that Hegseth violated the 1973 War Powers Resolution regarding conflicts in Iran and Yemen, ordered extrajudicial killings, disregarded civilian casualty laws, and illegally seized Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
Massie described his resolution as a gentler alternative to the actions Democrats will take once they control Congress in January. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries confirmed that Democrats intend to run Hegseth out of town upon taking the majority. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson delayed an immediate impeachment vote by sending representatives home for campaigning recess.
President Donald Trump stated he plans to keep Hegseth in his post, asserting the secretary is doing a very good job. While Trump acknowledged that replacing appointees would be easier before the Senate transition in January, he maintained his support for Hegseth despite reports of internal displeasure.
